After a long period filled with worry and speculation Brazilians and German conservationists were able to successfully reintroduce a grouping of couples back into their natural habitat. Their story is inspiring but also rife with resentment and jealousy.
The first hurdle was to get enough birds to be traded. The macaws are monogamous so the pairs had to be well-matched.
Range
A South African couple is working to save the critically endangered Spix's macaw shop, which was declared extinct in 2000 after years of poaching and loss of habitat. They have a small number of the birds in captivity and are hoping to release them near Curaca. They call the birds their blue-eyed friends and have compared their journey to the story of Presley, the last known Spix's catalina macaw shop lifespan (jordan-astrup.mdwrite.net) in the wild. They describe Presley as a true survivor, who lost his family and was loyal to his home.
