Alex the African Grey Parrot
Irene Pepperberg, an animal psychologist, bought Alex in 1977 from a pet store in the Northwest Side. She began an ongoing study for 30 years that would change our understanding of the intelligence of avian species. Her study with Alex has challenged the belief that birds only mimic human speech with any understanding of what it means.
What is Alex?
Alex (short form for Avian Learning experiment) was initially an African grey parrot bought from a pet shop. But over the course of his life, he blazed trails in animal psychology that were far beyond anything previously thought possible, and he proved that animals are as intelligent as primates or Bird buy african grey african grey parrots on sale for sale (championsleage.review) dolphins. Up until his death in 2007, Alex was one of the most famous talking birds around the world, appearing on TV shows and in scientific reports.
Alex was able to identify the shapes, colors and materials as well as the quantities of objects.
