Type-restricted upgrades
The process of upgrading is an essential aspect of the crafting process. Upgrades can improve an item's stats or increase its strength, or even give it a bonus effect. They can also change the appearance of an item level upgrade. Some upgrades are universal, whereas others have rules specific to weapons and armor. Making the wrong upgrade can destroy a great weapon, and may even cause it to become unusable.
As a general rule you can only upgrade an item level upgrade of equipment up to the level of its top-level counterpart.
