Item upgrades--more commonly known as "upping"--are an enchantment and item level upgrade that can be applied to weapons and armor pieces and increase their effectiveness. These upgrade items components add a number of points to the level gauge for the item, with their cost scaling with their rarity.
A perfectly formed version of this armor is highly prized in the melee PvP community for its ability to limit weapon damage.
Type-restricted upgrades
Upgrades are a crucial part of the equipment crafting process. Upgrades can enhance the stats of an item or Item Upgrades enhance its strength or provide a bonus effect. They also affect the appearance of the item. Some upgrades are universal while others have rules specific to armor and weapons. The wrong upgrade can ruin a weapon that was otherwise fantastic, and even make it unusable.
In general you can only upgrade items an item of equipment to the level of its top-level counterpart.
