Alex the African Grey Parrot
Irene Pepperberg, an animal psychologist, African Grey Parrot purchased Alex in 1977 from a pet store on the Northwest Side. She began a 30-year study that would change our understanding of avian intelligence. Alex's research disproved the belief that birds could only imitate human language without understanding the meaning.
